Fan Art Friday: Joss Stone, Sky Hunter, Mateo Cardea from Tall, Dark and Disreputable by Deb Marlowe and Nurse on Call by Edith Cotterill (^_~)

Hi everyone, I know this is might a bit a late. Some of you might have already finished Friday, either in the middle of it or about to start it. Either way, Happy Fan Art Friday. Today I’ll be showing you four fan arts. All of them were created by pencil and watercolour paints a 2B pencil.

I thought I’d start of with an old Children’s programme that came out during the 70’s but was re-mastered and shown during the early 90’s. This programme is called SkyHunter and it was part of a production company called Look and Read. The show had a very interesting plot involving a crow, an endless collection of birds’ eggs, bird thieves, an inspector (Who was known as ‘The Bird Man’) and three children within their pre-teens solving a case. I was about four when this series was released, but I didn’t watch it until I was about eight or nine. I watched this show alongside my class back in primary school. My old music teacher Mrs Perry had the videos and she made a habit of watching at least one episode each Thursday morning. The series was really interesting and I what appealed to me the most other than the plot was the songs that took place whenever there was an interval. These songs were useful because it taught English words in every form to a young audience. Most of the songs were really cheesy but very catchy. This picture has the three preteens. It was drawn by memory. Oh and I just wanted to add, in the re-mastered version, you get to see the three pre-teens in the story as adults, but only during the intervals, they looked like they were in their 20’s. This put a huge smile to my face. (^_^):

The next fan art is Mateo Cardea from Tall, Dark and Disreputable by Deb Marlowe. Mateo has been introduced in a previous novel that Deb had written, (I will not say which one; you’ll have to find it. (^_^)

The next fan art is of the novel that I’m currently reading, which is called ‘Nurse on Call.’ As I have previously mentioned in my last post, I will be making more fan art on the novel. Here we see the next stage of Edith’s journey of being a nurse:

The final fan art I thought I’d dedicate to the musician Joss Stone. Last year, I won her album ‘Soul Sessions Vol.2’ on Magic 105.4’s Test of time. I managed to guess the year correctly through the musical clues and the music played within that year. The year that I guess correctly was 2005. After listening to this album numerous times throughout the rest of 2012 until now, I felt that the least I could do is do a watercolour painting of her.:

Dark and Light Project 2: Prelude to Mid-Summer Story 2/3

Dark and Light Project 2: Prelude to Mid-Summer Story 1/3

Hello everyone, here are the two pencil sketches of the Second Dark and Light story. These are different scenes from the story. I quite enjoyed starting off this project because I ended up working a lot quicker and each page has a sense of beauty. There will be more information regarding the characters as well as the plot once I've completed it:

Late February to Late March

During the end of February to the end of this month I have been reading a lot of historical fiction watch some music videos and working on a project for a company that works woth youths from a young age until early twenties.

The first batch of drawings were loosely inspired by a historical romance novel called 'Gallant Officer, Forbidden Lady' by a well known Romance novelist Diane Gaston. This is in fact the second time that I have been inspired by this novelist's work and I can honestly say what drew me, to this novel was that the main protagonist Jack Vernon. He most certainly had a great and extraordinary mind to be an artist. His mind were always filled with everlasting images of a certain war that occurred within the novel. This was the first war, that left him with open scars of hatred and pain not only to his soul but also on one of the characters of which I won't mention. You'll have to read the book to find out. I admired him so much that he even went to the extent of recording what he visualised and pouring them into the cup of pages of his sketchbook. His studio were filled with mountains of sketchbooks.

These two drawing were modified on Photoshop. The first one takes reference to a camera photo on my old phone. As for the second drawing, it was derived from

a walk home after creating a batch full of drawings my mind began to sing some lyrics to a very popular song that was released this year. These were the lyrics: "So just put your hands, on me on skinny jeans, be your teenage dreams tonight" My mind then began to play the second drawing which is featured before your eyes right now.

These last two drawings were created from pastels, one which is of a gentleman in regency clothing and the other is of a fictional character called Wizadora, from my childhood:

The final task that I have been working on is a storyboard and character studies for a film for my client. So far the majority of the characters have been completed and I am

still working on the storyboard:

September-November Tasks

Since September, I have been working on the alternate version of my second manga jiman comic, but due to unseen circumstances, I am now working on the prequel which is based on the main protagonist at the age of ten. I will not go into further detail, but I think it might be an interesting comic to be seen by readers. On the winners are announced, the comic will be shown on SmackJeeves. I'm quite nervous because it has indeed been a while since I've shown some artwork on line.

In October I drew a girl playing a violin, this represents that during that month I began to play the violin:

This month, I have done a character pin-ups from historical romance. This one is of Jack Alden. He is not only from 'Her Cinderella Season', but a couple of other books by Deb Marlowe. He's an amazing scholar and an am

azing character.

This is an completed pastel drawing, of a couple wearing Regency clothing. The building is the house of the Lord John Ashburnam. It now a place people come for a prayer retreat. I took a lot of photos, from this place, I hope to depict some of my characters within the chosen settings.

Lastly, as I have now turned twenty-three, I have drawn myself in Tudor Clothing, with my last hairstyle which was in Ghana cornrows. I'm quite proud of this drawing because I feel that I have really captured the dress perfectly.

Reading Historical Romance Novels

Recently I have been reading a new genre of literature other than comics, the genre is called Historical Romance, this genre was recommended by a old secondary school friend of mine, of whom I met unexpectedly in the library.

The first book I read was called 'Not Quite a Lady' by Louise Allen, shortly after I was reading a book called Written in the Heart by Judith Stacey. Within a span of two days both books were read. Soon after I read the first book called 'The Dangerous Mr Ryder' which is part of a series called 'Those Scandalous Ravenhursts'. This is also by Louise Allen.

Other books that I found very inspiring was the book 'Her Cinderella Season' By Deb Marlowe. This is because some parts of the story revealed parts of 'The Slave Trade', and also how certain issues of love were resolved. The other book was set within the Victorian Era, the book was called 'The Ac

cidental Countess' and it is by Michelle Willingham.

This book I came to love alot, other than how the author revealed some interesting quotes by the protagonist, but how each of the characters were able to become so realistic. I felt so inspired by the book that I decided to do a fanart, which can be seen here:

Alot of humour elements were revealed and I was utterly amazed how vividly theses author was able to depict some of the scenery settings. I was so facinated and amazed of what I read that I decided to e-mail some of these authors my response and reactions Some of them I am waiting for a response, others have already replied back.

There will indeed be more of these books from this genre that I'll be reading and hopefully getting inspired from.
