Final Major Project: The Escapist (Part 2)

So far I have managed to complete the colour scheme for each of the characters but before I reveal them. I did the final character that is Great Great Grandmother Augustina. Since her story is set in the 1930’s I have chosen a hairstyle from that era. Here is the pencil and colour drawing of her:

Here are coloured images of each character. Some characters are left out but I am hoping to add them later. I will also move on to explain about the concept of each character:

Petra: I chose to name the protagonist Petra, because it is a name that is unknown, but also it the name of a friend of mine who was part of my degree course in the second year. As for th

e model, I have chosen to use Katie Melua because one of the tracks that she featured on Ali Campbell ‘s Album Running Free. I was amazed of 

her voice so I decided to do some research on her and purchase some of her albums. It was then I decided to use her as the model for the protagonist Petra.

Aly - Petra’s Mother: She is a real person that I chose to use after a result of an interesting conversation with her at her first exhibition for illustration. Her interesting love for tea became a heavy influence in developing the character.

Matthew – Petra’s Father: After watching the English version of Studio Ghibli’s movie Howl’s Moving Castle I decided to learn more about the voice actor Christian Bale who played Howl. I researched some information on him and chose to use him as the model for my story.

Ryan: Ryan was created after the description that is explained in the story. Surprisingly after I drew him, he looked a lot more different than what I imagined him to be so I kept him as he is.

 

Kylan: This character was conceived in the summer of 2008 after watching a children’s programme. When the episode was finished I decided to draw a pin-up character that would be just as horrible as the boy in the cartoon and a lot more similar. This proved to be a success and I even nicknamed him. When time approached to find character concepts for ‘The Escapist’ I felt that it is necessary to use him.  I yearned for him to still keep the same characteristics and have him depicted realistic. This is because his original form is viewed to be for a Manga.

Obsession Project book arrived!!! (^_^)

The third book arrived on Tuesday and so far I am impressed of how it turned out.

Final Major Project: The Escapist (Part 1)

Here is the information provided for the Final Major Project. The plan, introduction and story is completed which took me three days to finish and check to spelling mistakes and grammar. But all in all it will be an interesting semester for me to achieve what I can do: (^_^)

It is about a girl in her late teens who uses diary writing to her advantage, after she is currently being bullied.

Some of these characters look very similar as famous people, I decided to use them because these are very people who are very appealing to me and also have known for a short or long period of time.

*The book for the obsession project has been ordered and will be sent as soon as possible. I’m counting the days literally. (^_^)

 

Two of the three books have arrived today! (^_^)

When I left for university this morning, a package arrived for me. I'm not sure what time it came, but when I came home I was left astounded, when I saw it on the computer desk. I instantly knew and realised that my books have finally came.

The images are quite large for the third book which is based on the obsession project. The images are very large that I had to minimise them, so now I have no idea of how they would look like.

 

Obsession Project PART 4

I used violet ink to colour in the images that I have created.  First I made three shades of violet ink and applied it on to the drawings. When it was dry, I repeated the same procedure to add tone.

With the violet images almost completed, I decided to create the front and back cover for the book. Here are the covers in three stages:

Now that the images are nearly completed, I will now scan them and apply a white misty background on the bottom of each page, which will be applied on photoshop and text which will be added in Booksmart.

Graphic Arts: Clothing to Shoes

In the previous semester I was working on clothing. I first began with selecting clothes and objects that seem to fascinate me. The images that were chosen were from image websites such as istockphotos.com and getty images. With the images that were chosen I enlarged them into A3 and created monoprints.

Here are a few that I have done:

The monoprints seemed to be empty so I used coloured inks to fill the clothing in. I soon moved on to shoes because I felt that it would be an interesting source to look at and maybe finding out about it's history would be awesome. So I went into the library and browsed around to find some books on shoes. Once they werefound I looked throughout most of the pages and selected the shoes that I found exciting, next I photocopied each shoe and made more monoprints.

 

I next chose to created colograph boards, these were made by cutting the card into the correct shoe size and glued the images on. I then stuck the card shoes on

to a rectangular card, and repeated the same procedure three times. In th

e end I had four colograph card with shoes on top.

I filled each colograph card with a range of material such as sawdust and tissue paper and covered the  board with shellac. Once it was left to dry over night it was then ready to be used to print. With the use of fabriano paper and printing inks, I created four colograph prints.

The prints describes frozen objects trapped with a large block of ice and colourful lights are shown to make the objects interesting. 

 

Obsession Project PART 3

After I photocopied the real drawings, I used a 6B graphite stick, to create a rubbings behind it and traced through the characters and backgrounds, using a ball pen. I used heavyweight cartridge paper, to trace the drawing on.

Finally, I inked the lines with black Indian ink and a nib pen. Here are the six images from a section of the main story:
